Returning to Natural Fertilizer

There has long been a culture of organic farming in Bojong Menteng Village. Organic farming is the technique of using non-chemical fertilizers or pesticides. My experience in farming started after my Pesantren education ended in the 1980’s. Starting in 1995 I tried to begin farming on my own.

    Learning Organic, Learning to be Patient.

    In the beginning of 2001, I got acquainted with brother Daniel (ELSPAT-Bogor) and his friends. They often talk about organic farming. I also invited by sister Ida (ELSPAT-Bogor) and visiting the land for organic farming practice in Geblug village. I wondered what the organic farming is looked like? At that I time a also noticed that brother Daniel was very preserving with his plants in Cujulang village. I spent a great deal of time observing this organic farming.

    Organic Shallot Cultivation (*)

    Since the 1950’s, farmers in the Batu area used chemical fertilizer and pesticide such as DDT. In 1980 they began to notice that their farming production yield was declining. The number of fertilizer and pesticide users rose along with the price of the chemicals. To the best of my ability I have tried find a way for farmers to achieve better profits. To that end I have collaborated with the farmers association HPS Batu.
